This results in a carbon-neutral shipment.<\/p>\n<p>The attributable monetary contributions go directly to fund third-party validated projects that help to offset the carbon emissions generated through shipping. Swire Shipping does not profit from the offset transaction.<\/p>\n<p>All of the projects we offer are <a href=\"https:\/\/verra.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Verra certified<\/a> for CO2 environmental benefits, combined with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climate-standards.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CCBA certified<\/a> for economic and social benefits to the local communities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section_carbon_container_accrodian\">\n<h3>About CO2 Emission Calculation<\/h3>\n<div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-sm-12 accordian-terms  wow fadeInUp\" style=\"visibility: visible;\"><ul class=\"list-unstyled \"><a class=\"accordian-click collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" href=\"#term1\"><li>1<\/li><li>Calculation methodology<\/li><li><\/li><\/a><div class=\"collapse collapse-terms\" id=\"term1\"><p><p>For every tonne of fuel, approximately 3.1144-3.206 tonnes of carbon dioxide (depending on the type of fuel used) are released into the atmosphere. To be aligned with the rest of the shipping industry, we use conversion factors from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).<\/p>\n<p>The total amount of carbon dioxide emitted for each shipment depends on factors such as the type of fuel used, number of ports called, distance travelled, weather conditions, vessel cargo capacity.<br \/>\nFor our calculation methods, we use a historic 6-month data from vessels that are operated by Swire Shipping. We then take a median of the fuel consumed between each port pair within the same service.<br \/>\nAs the vessels in Swire Shipping fleet carries both breakbulk and containers, we use tonnes of cargo for calculation where we assume 1 TEU is equal to 23 tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>We use the formula as outlined in IMO\u2019s Guidelines for Voluntary Use of the Ship Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI).<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div><\/ul><ul class=\"list-unstyled \"><a class=\"accordian-click collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" href=\"#term2\"><li>2<\/li><li>Is the vessel type taken into account when calculating the carbon footprint of my shipment?<\/li><li><\/li><\/a><div class=\"collapse collapse-terms\" id=\"term2\"><p><p>The vessels deployed in each Swire Shipping are of similar type and deadweight. As such, the fuel consumption per tonne of cargo per nautical mile is calculated according to the service on which the shipment will be allocated.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div><\/ul><ul class=\"list-unstyled \"><a class=\"accordian-click collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" href=\"#term3\"><li>3<\/li><li>How are emissions calculated when there are transshipments?<\/li><li><\/li><\/a><div class=\"collapse collapse-terms\" id=\"term3\"><p><p>We can only calculate carbon footprint for shipments carried on a Swire Shipping operated vessel. We cannot calculate carbon emissions if part(s) of the journey is\/are performed by a third-party vessel(s). This is due to carbon emission calculations being based on a historic 6-month data which is only available for our operated vessels.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div><\/ul><ul class=\"list-unstyled \"><a class=\"accordian-click collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" href=\"#term4\"><li>4<\/li><li>What happens when I ship on multiple vessels but not all of them are operated by Swire Shipping?<\/li><li><\/li><\/a><div class=\"collapse collapse-terms\" id=\"term4\"><p><p>Our calculator does not include emissions of your shipment on a non-Swire Shipping operated vessel.
