Lae cargo routing changes during STS Crane commissioning

12/12/2022

Dear Valued Customers,

We previously communicated that we expect significant port congestion at Lae port during the period of Ship-to-Shore crane commissioning.

As of 12 December, Swire Shipping expects 38 days of berthing delay for our next 3 vessels calling Lae :

  • Port Vila Chief 2215N -10 days wait
  • Kokopo Chief 2219N – 14 days wait
  • Majuro Chief 2218S – 14 days wait

A network delay of this magnitude is unsustainable. Accordingly Swire Shipping is taking the following steps to reduce congestion and consequential delays to our customers throughout the network:

  1. Port Vila Chief (2215N), Kokopo Chief (2219N) and Majuro Chief (2218S) will omit their planned Lae port calls and discharge all Lae import cargo from New Zealand, Australia, and Asia within our network at Noumea.
  2. These cargos will be rerouted to the Kota Bahagia (2288).
  3. The Kota Bahagia (2288) will load all cargo from Noumea on 23rd December and sail directly to Lae, ETA 30th December.

We apologise for any inconvenience during this period of caused by factors outside of our control. Our booking teams will assist with all booking changes required.

Thank you for your continued support. Please do not hesitate to contact your local Swire Shipping representative.
