We are committed to reducing our Greenhouse Gas footprint, ultimately to Net Zero by, and preferably well before, 2050.
Investing in New Technologies
Swire Shipping continues to invest in new technological advancements which will result in lower fuel consumption and thus, further reduction of emissions to air. Energy Efficiency Technologies are continually evaluated and deployed.
SailGreener
SailGreener is a programme through which Swire Shipping offers its customers an opportunity to offset the carbon footprint of their shipment(s) by contributing to projects that reduce or prevent carbon emissions as well as deliver economic, community, and social benefits. This will result in a carbon-neutral shipment.
Reducing Our Plastic Footprint
In 2018 Swire Shipping set a goal to reduce single-use plastic water bottles on board owned vessels to zero. In 2022, single-use cutlery was also banned for managed vessels which reduced the overall amount of SUP items purchased.
Marine Biodiversity
We have a number of philanthropic projects that look at biodiversity conservation in our key stakeholder communities. For our latest projects, see our Sustainability Reports.
Sustainable Ship Recycling
16 owned ships have been sustainably recycled. No vessels were recycled in 2022.
Sustainable Offices
Eco-Office certification is in place for the Singapore Head Office and employees are regularly engaged in environmental education and activities. Carbon emissions generated by material events and conferences organised and sponsored by Swire Shipping, are tracked and offset following the zero waste and zero carbon events guidelines.
