Swire Shipping opens new office in Nagoya, Japan

Something went wrong. Please try after sometime

09/07/2025

Tokyo, Japan – Swire Shipping today announced the official opening of its new office in Nagoya, reflecting the company’s dedication to the Japanese market and to strengthening relationships with customers in the region. The establishment of a second office in Japan complements Swire Shipping’s expansion and follows the relocation of its Tokyo branch to new premises in February this year.

Chris Robertson, General Manager – Asia and Northern Hemisphere and Country Manager – Japan, Swire Shipping, reaffirmed Swire Shipping’s confidence in the Japanese market. “The opening of our new Nagoya office comes as Swire Shipping looks to strengthen and invest in our Westwood Service to better support our customers in this region. Our customers have come to rely on us as we provide more direct service alternatives from ports in Japan and South Korea to the Pacific Northwest than other carriers, and transitioning our representation in Nagoya to an in-house model will enable us to leverage local market expertise and facilitate more direct engagement with our customers.

“We look forward to building on our legacy in Japan, expanding presence and experienced teams in Tokyo and Nagoya to deliver greater value and a more seamless experience for our customers.”

The new office is located in the central business district in Nagoya, bringing Swire Shipping closer to its customers. Taking charge at the new office is Yoshihiko Nakayama, a Nagoya local with an extensive career in shipping, including postings in North America. Staff representing Swire Shipping at Millenium Shipping, previously Swire Shipping’s representative agency in the Nagoya market, have been transferred to the new branch, ensuring continuity and minimal disruption to customers.

Founder and owner of Millenium Shipping, Mr Sotaro Nishioka, also comes on board as a trusted Senior Advisor for the business.

The Swire name boasts a long-standing presence in Japan, dating back to 1867. Swire Shipping, previously known as The China Navigation Company, itself has a rich legacy, having operated as a shipping line for over 150 years in the Asia-Pacific.
