  • Newly relocated Mumbai office to be the regional HQ for South Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa
  • Expands Swire Digital Centre with the opening of a second centre of excellence in Chennai

Mumbai – Swire Shipping commemorated the relocation of its Mumbai regional office to new premises in Meraki Arena, Chembur, with a celebration attended by over 50 guests comprising key customers, business partners and associates. The office will serve as regional headquarters for the company’s newly created SAMEEA region, encompassing South Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

The new office was inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the traditional lighting of a lamp, led by Swire Shipping Chairman, Sam Swire, Chief Executive Officer, Jeremy Sutton, and Regional Head (SAMEEA), Nithin Menon. The company recently transitioned management of its Europe and Africa regions to Mumbai, with the new office allowing an expanded team to provide better support to customers in the region.

Ribbon-cutting ceremony led by (L-R) Swire Shipping Chief Executive Officer, Jeremy Sutton; Chairman, Sam Swire; and Regional Head (SAMEEA), Nithin Menon.

At the evening celebration, Swire Shipping Chairman Sam Swire spoke of the company’s commitment to India: “We see strong potential in the Indian market and the expansion of our regional office in Mumbai reflects Swire Shipping’s continued commitment to the region. We look forward to deepening ties here and building stronger partnerships with our customers in the years to come.”

In 2019, the company established Swire Digital Centre (SDC), a digital and technology centre of excellence, in Bengaluru. Since then, SDC has tripled its staff strength to 300 employees, providing support to entities across the Swire Group. In August 2024, the company opened a second SDC office in Chennai to keep pace with growing business requirements.

Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Sutton expressed the company’s appreciation to its customers, and business partners and associates in the SAMEEA region. “As a leading shipping company in the Asia-Pacific, we have built a reputation for safety, integrity, and reliability. Our customers have come to depend on us for our on-time connections into North America, Asia and Oceania and we will continue to deliver on our promise of reliability to support their supply chains,” he said.

Swire Shipping’s presence in India began over 20 years ago when The China Navigation Company (as it was formerly known) acquired the Indotrans liner service in 2003, extending the company’s liner footprint to the US East and Gulf coasts, India and Saudi Arabia. The Swire Group enjoys a much longer connection to the Indian market with Finlays, a wholly owned subsidiary, opening its first branch office in Kolkata in 1870. Since the 1940s, Swire has also been the major shareholder of Cathay Pacific, a premium full-service airline connecting India to over 200 destinations worldwide.
