Chris Blake was appointed GM Operations and Logistics in November 2011, having previously been GM Commercial Liner Division. He is also a director of the Groups joint venture stevedoring company in New Zealand, Independent Stevedoring Limited.

He has been involved in many facets of the shipping industry in the last 40 years, having started his career in 1968 as a cadet officer in the British Merchant Marine. Coming ashore in the mid 70’s he has been involved in a number of shipping developments including the containerisation of Safmarine’s Europe/South Africa trade, the restructuring of Tasman Asia where he was Operations Manager and the establishment of NZ Orient Line and Austral Asia Line where he was Managing Director.  

Having been brought up in Malawi, Chris attended boarding school in the UK, initially at Skipper Hill Preparatory in Mayfield, Sussex and then at the naval college HMS Worcester based on the river Thames at Greenhithe.
