Asia to Pacific Islands, New Zealand - Freight Rate Levels

Dear Valued Customers,

Over the last several years market rate levels have declined to historic lows across the Pacific and New Zealand trades. As the region is our home and the heart of our business our commitment has not wavered and we have continued to invest in best in class tonnage deployed on direct services to serve communities across New Zealand and the Pacific.

In 2018 Swire Shipping will deliver 715 port calls on 5 services to ports from New Caledonia to Tahiti. The deployment of tonnage across the region is supported by further investments in expansion of our regional office network to ensure we are delivering on our commitment to be partner of choice across the region

During 2017 we have seen the trend of declining freight rates accelerate to an unsustainable level, this accelerated erosion of freight rates has been further compounded by increasing fuel prices and other operational costs.

In view of the prevailing market conditions and in order to maintain the comprehensive service network in place Swire Shipping will implement a rate restoration program commencing immediately.

We are cognisant of the fact that increases in freight levels can impact our customers business, as such and to mitigate the impact on our customers our approach will be to initially implement increases of USD100 per TEU and USD5 per RVT as your current rates reach their expiry dates.

Swire Shipping’s commitment to the New Zealand and Pacific markets remains unwavering and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support to our business.

Your Swire Shipping representative will be meeting with you shortly to discuss the above.

Yours Sincerely,

Swire Shipping
